Placenta Services

The incredible organ which your body creates to support and nourish your growing baby is often forgotten about after the birth but could play an important part in postnatal recovery. Being pregnant and birthing a baby either vaginally or by caesarian section is rigorous and demanding, post birth we need our body to be flooded with essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals to aid recovery both physically and mentally. Because the placenta is so nutrient dense, by encapsulating and ingesting it during the fourth trimester we could contribute to the replenishment of what our body loses during pregnancy and birth.

Using placenta remedies during early postpartum have been said by birthing people to:

- Reduce post-birth bleeding time.

- Encourage milk supply.

- Balance hormones.

- Help prevent baby blues & Post natal depression.

- Boost energy during a time we may be sleep deprived.

- Reduce stress levels.

Simple Method

This method involves dehydrating the raw placenta at a high temperature to kill surface bacteria initially and then for a further 12-16 hours at a lower temperature. Simple capsules can yield a more energetic response making them a great option for those who already have children. This method of preparation also tends to produce a greater number of pills, making them last longer.

Steamed Method

Inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine, the placenta is first steamed with grounding, warming & balancing herbs before being dehydrated for a further 8-10 hours. This method is reported to have a more ‘mellow’ effect and is said to be the most effective remedy to beat the baby blues.

50/50 Method

The placenta is halved to make simple and steamed capsules and encapsulated into separate jars so you can take depending on how you feel each day - need more energy? go for a simple capsule, feeling low? take a steamed capsule.

Tincture

The tincture is made by taking a piece of placenta which is steeped in alcohol for six weeks and vacillated daily in a cool dark place. It is then filtered and kept in a 300ml dropper bottle along with a smaller bottle which you can top up as needed. It is a potent, long term remedy which can be used in times of difficultly or transition, particularly in pre-menstrum or peri-menopause.

How it works

If you are interested in the benefits of placenta encapsulation then please get in touch via email or phone to discuss any questions you might have. If you decide to go ahead I will email you a booking form which you return along with a £50 deposit for the services. I will then arrange to hand deliver a chiller pack to you once you have reached 36 weeks gestation, this also gives me a chance to explain how your placenta should be stored after birth to ensure it is safe for consumption. You’ll be given hard copies of all the forms needed for you, your birth partner and your midwife to make sure your placenta is birthed on to a clean, dry surface and inspected by your midwife after it is birthed.

From 36 weeks I will be officially ‘on call’ for you I will be on hand by text to answer any questions that arise before you go into labour and if you need to let me know of any changes to your birth plan. When your labour begins it is useful for you or your partner to let me know by text so that I can prepare myself for collection, when on call I will keep my phone on at night so I can be contacted with questions and to arrange collection. Depending on the time of day you give birth I will endeavour to collect your placenta at the earliest opportunity but always within 12 hours of the delivery.

Upon arrival at your hospital or home I will take the temperature of your placenta to ensure it has been chilled correctly then I return to my house where I will encapsulate your placenta.

Your placenta remedies will then be returned to you within 3 days of your birth and if you have ordered a tincture, I will either hand deliver or post this to you after six weeks.
